The Dustdiver

In January 2023, just after our release of Sture Dahlström's first English language novel Cuckoo’s Progress, we were approached by author Mats Keyet who revealed that he had seen parts of another unpublished Sture Dahlström novel, a manuscript in English, while doing research for a biography.

After several days of searching through the Sture Dahlström archives in the spring of 2023, a complete finalized manuscript of the unknown and previously unpublished novel The Dustdiver was discovered by a Dahlström family member.

The Dustdiver is the second and last novel Sture Dahlström wrote in English before moving back to Sweden to continue his storytelling in Swedish, as he couldn’t accept the US publisher’s demands for alterations of his scripts. Instead he rewrote The Dustdiver story in Swedish to become Den galopperande svensken (The galloping Swede), one of his very best and most appreciated novels. So The Dustdiver isn't some leftover script, never intended for publication, but a Sture Dahlström masterpiece that just failed to find a suitable American publisher who was prepared to release it without any alterations.

The Dustdiver is set in the USA and tells the story about the Swedish immigrant Bergman Wasa's escapades. Reading The Dustdiver in its original unfiltered English language, Sture’s English, adds a close, authentic feel to the story.

A year after the discovery of script, The Dustdiver is released in a limited edition hard cover book with a cover illustration painted by Anna-Stina Ehrenfeldt, Sture Dahlström’s wife and creative partner who illustrated the covers for many of his books. Biographer Mats Keyet generously suggested that he could write an article about the years Sture Dahlström wrote in English to be included in our limited edition of The Dustdiver.

Please note that The Dustdiver will only be available in a limited edition. When it’s sold out we won’t be able to print any further editions. Just like our edition of Sture Dahlström’s first English novel Cuckoo’s Progress.
